Advent Poems (Dec 13th) - Shepherd Limerick

There was a young man called Phillipe
Whose job was to look after sheep
One night he looked higher
To a heavenly choir
And ran waking peeps from their sleep

Philipe? Sounds a bit contrived to me!

What?! Phillipe was a very popular shepherding name back in Bethlehem during the BC/AD cross over. That's why a lot of shepherds during sheep dog trials today call out fleep fleep instead of whistling.

Besides, I've been looking at quite a few limericks lately for inspiration and I can only conclude that limericks are, by their very nature, contrived. So thank you.

When you start by rhyming "Phillipe" with "sheep" you know you're on to something good.

Better than advent poems/advent songs/advent rights/advent wrongs anyway...

I like philippe. It sounds French.

I also like it when you do limericks. Coz then I can be bothered to read them.

Great picture by the way.

Loads going on in it and the Shepherd does look slightly French
